Using advanced membrane technology, today it is possible to obtain drinking water or process water directly from the sea or from wells near the shore by desalinating the water. It is said that water desalination will gain a great importance in the future, because the supply of humanity with clean drinking water will become more and more difficult due to pollution or not having access at all. One purpose for which membrane technologies are already used extensively today is to desalinate water for human use on ships and boats. In this process water is pressed through a semipermeable membrane. which can only be passed by certain ions and molecules. With this a separation of the original solution is achieved and salts, bacteria, viruses, toxins such as heavy metals and lime is retended.
